The Bedroom

So this is my favourite room we have done together, I love how much we have managed to transform the space! When the other half bought the house, the previous owner had left the bedroom furniture so all he needed to do was buy a new mattress. This was great for him as he had no furniture to bring but by the time I came along he was ready to transform the room!

As you can see the furniture left was a pine effect which was actually a laminate finish. As well as the wardrobe they also left the mirror unit to the left, 1 fitted bedside table and a matching headboard. This did make it slightly harder to make a decision on what to do with it because I wanted to make sure what ever I did would be good quality and last. In the end I made the decision to paint the wardrobe and replace the remainder of the furniture.

So I created this mood board to show the other half the idea for the space (he isn’t able to visualise my plans so I find it easier to create these to show him). He was a bit sceptical about the dark wardrobes but when I showed him some images he was on board! Next was the challenge of actually doing it! I got some primer to give the paint a better surface to stick to which for the most part has held really well (just the odd touch up has been needed) and used 2 coats of a good undercoat. The colour we went for was Farrow and Ball Railings but i got it mixed by Valspar at B&Q. As we the rest of the house the bedroom needed to be plastered to cover the artex so we got this done before finishing off with the top coat. We had some paint left over from painting the lounge we I painted it the Little Greene – French grey (again mixed but Dulux) which is a warmer tone of grey and gives a neutral base.

I absolutely love the finish this gives to the room! It really gives a dramatic feature to the room and was well worth the hours of painting! The other feature we have is the headboard, I actually bought an old headboard from a charity shop and covered it with the velvet from Ashley Wilde fabrics. I love the feel of the velvet and its has a textured design in as well. As you can see the bedroom isn’t very big and previously had 1 bedside table which was fitted. I removed this and bought two bedsides from Sue Ryder (the only ones i could find small enough) which are great but it meant for bedside lights they would need to be wall mounted. Rather than get an electrician on board i just bought these wall mounted plug in lights from Amazon. They really finish off the space and bring some brass into the scheme.

To finish off the room we pulled the carpet up, stained the floor dark and bought a large rug! As I mentioned in my lounge post I much prefer wood flooring to carpet as I feel it gives so much more character and flexibility to a room! I also feel its easier to clean but that’s just me! I couldn’t find the exact rug but this is very similar from Wayfair.

As I mentioned before, this is my favourite room! I feel its important to create a sanctuary for you to enjoy at the end of the day to give you the best opportunity to get a good nights rest! I hope you enjoyed this post, if you do then give it a like and i will know to create more!
