Where do you look for to inspire you, and your interiors? There are so many recourses now that are so accessible such as Pinterest, Instagram to magazines and books! And although I use all of these I also love to pick up ideas and inspiration when I’m out and about.
Recently we book a weekend away in Liverpool and after seeing the gorgeous Zoe Sugg visit The Titanic Hotel, I had to go! I was influenced as they say! Working as a commercial interior designer I’m often looking out at fabrics, flooring, lighting but at The Titanic what really sold it was the atmosphere created by the beautiful architecture.
The Reception:
As you walk in you’re welcomed by really friendly staff at the reception desk. Tom Dixon lighting drawing you eyes up to the beautiful barrel ceilings, giving a subtle but organic feature. Once out of the lift in to the corridors, the low lighting and dark grey walls and carpets creates a dramatic journey to your bedroom.
The Bedroom:
The bedrooms are honestly amazing! The room we stayed in was huge, having a comfy king size bed with a sofa and chairs seating area. No expense was spared with the final touches, black out curtains and lamps connected to the switches on the wall made the experience even more enjoyable.
The en suite was very luxurious, it is also really spacious with a large walk in shower and his and hers sinks! And even a free standing bath! In fact the en suite was bigger than our kitchen at home!
The Restaurant/Bar:
The bar area is filled with comfy leather chairs and sofa’s with view out onto the dock. It has such a cosy atmosphere even with the high ceilings and large windows, connected to the main reception it had a real buzz from day to night. The design focuses on the architecture of the building with comfy sofas and chairs upholstered in leather and pops of teal.
My design takeaways:
If you are blessed with great architecture, make it a feature! Honing in on the architecture and the history of the building gave an edge to the hotel no other hotel could recreate, it make it unique to the area and worth highlighting.
Don’t be afraid to go dark, the journey through the corridors to our bedroom built up the excitement even more. Being a designer is not always about the look but how it makes people feel, its creating an experience.
