We are all becoming more aware of our impact on the environment, but have you thought about how our interiors had an impact. Chemicals in our home come for several sources, meaning its important to be aware of them and how to make a difference, Below, I will take you through the key areas you can focus on to make your home more eco friendly and also better for our health.
All you need to know about making your home more eco friendly.
Furniture
Furniture can be the largest contributor of chemicals in our homes, when you are looking at making your home more eco friendly, it can be a great place to start. The best place to start is with sustainability sourced or second-hand furniture, a few of my favourite furniture brands are Ethnicraft and Nkuku*
Natural flooring
Flooring is another place you can make changes to your home. Again a large contributor of the chemicals in your home, man-made flooring such as LVT flooring can be carcinogenic, and carpets can release recycled chemicals in your home for years. A great alternative is wool or sisal carpets, there are so many great options on the market with prices ranging from £14.99
Accessories
Accessories may seem like a small way to make a change but the small changes add up, I love to incorporate vintage and second hand accessories but some amazing brands are selling ethical and eco friendly accessories for you home such as Nkuku* , ethical superstore* and there are even some really great small businesses on etsy *
Another great company which I love is Stitched, they create curtains made out of natural and sustainably sourced fabrics. You can get bespoke curtains made for your home, with various heading types and linings, making them a fantastic option for your home.
Paint
Paint is a well known source of chemical in our homes, there are now several brands that have created eco friendly and sustainable paints and wallpapers. A few personal favourites are Victory paints and Little Greene which are fantastic quality and virtually no VOC’s. They both have a fantastic range of colours and they both also have a lovely range of eco friendly wallpapers.
