Making sure your bedroom is a place of rest is so important! Sleep is extremely important to our health both mental and physical, it enables the body to repair and research is showing lack of sleep can contribute to dementia. Sleep also closely linked to mental health. Lack of sleep can contribute to mood swings, irritability, and an increased risk of mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression. Establishing good sleep hygiene practices, such as maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, avoiding stimulants before bedtime and creating a comfortable sleep environment, can contribute to better sleep quality.
Designing your bedroom interior involves creating a space that reflects your personal style, promotes relaxation, and meets your functional needs. It is important to remember, the key to successful bedroom interior design is creating a space that aligns with your personal style and which will also help to promote relaxation. Experiment with different elements until you find a combination that suits your preferences and makes you feel comfortable in your own space.
Below are some of my favourite tips to create a calm bedroom interior:
1. Colour schemes:
For a calm bedroom design, consider soft, muted colours like light blues, greens, or neutral tones such as beige and grey. Neutral colour schemes are versatile and timeless and are great for creating a calm and sophisticated atmosphere. Neutral tones are also a great to provide a blank canvas for various décor styles and can make spaces appear larger and more open. If you still like to incorporate colour, or to bring in colour from around your home, you can add accent colours in with textures and patterns on your soft furnishings. Using accent colours sparingly will help to ensure your create a balanced and elegant look in your home. You should also look to incorporate natural materials, like wooden furniture, and use soft, textured fabrics for bedding and décor to enhance the serene atmosphere.

2. Invest in a good bed:
It is important to invest in a good bed and even more important to invest in a good mattress! It can make the world of difference when you are comfortable and a bad bed can ruin a good mattress so it is important to invest in both! Una is a mattress which is made up of organic latex multi layer support for a great night’s sleep and 100% organic certified materials for total peace of mind.

3. Reduce chemicals:
VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are a group of organic chemicals that can evaporate into the air and may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. VOCs are emitted from a variety of products and materials, including paints, carpets and even our furniture.
When looking to reduce the VOC's in our homes a great place to start is with paint. Opting for low-VOC or VOC-free paint is an eco-friendly choice for your home, these paints emit fewer harmful chemicals, contributing to better indoor air quality. Look for labels like "low-VOC" or "zero-VOC" when selecting paint. Brands like Little Greene* and Farrow and Ball * often offer environmentally friendly options in various colours and finishes, providing a healthier choice for both you and the environment.
Wool carpets are a natural and durable choice for flooring, they are resilient, resistant to stains, and have natural flame-retardant properties. Wool carpets also offer insulation and a luxurious feel for your home. If your are worried on the maintenance side, just as most carpets, they require regular vacuuming and occasional professional cleaning. This will help maintain their appearance and longevity making wool carpets for a sustainable and comfortable addition to your home.

4. Storage:
Storage is important to keep on top of that clutter which will help you to create your calm bedroom interior! In my opinion you can't have too much storage. Laminate furniture is the highest contributor to chemicals in the home, so make sure if you can to use a solid wood such as pine, oak or walnut. A great brand to use is a company called Konk furniture. They are based in Bristol and manufacture solid wood furniture made from FSC approved timber from sustainable forests and finishing with a blend of natural oils and waxes. Another great company are Nkuku *, they work with with artisans throughout the world, combining timeless design with traditional skills and natural materials.

5. Declutter:
Decluttering your home can help create a more organized and serene living space. Make sure you don't fill your bedroom with lots of unnecessary furniture and accessories. It is important for your bedroom space to feel relaxing and there is nothing relaxing about clutter! Although I like to have this approach is most of my home, it is most important in your bedroom to embrace a minimalist mindset keeping only items that serve a purpose or bring you joy.
Decluttering your space can bring a sense of calm and organization, start by tackling one area at a time, getting rid of items you no longer need or use. Organize belongings in designated storage spaces, and simplify your décor for a cleaner look. Regularly assess your belongings and address any new items that come into your living space to make sure to keep your home clutter free.
Remember, the key is to create a living space that aligns with your lifestyle and promotes a sense of calm and order. Take it one step at a time, and don't hesitate to seek help from friends or family if you find the process challenging.
